t-time Spotlight: Jazmine Sullivan

Alright. There’s been a lot of talk about Ms. Sullivan. Her single, “Need You Bad,” has been lighting up the blogsphere (if not the airwaves) and she’s regularly been proclaimed the second coming of…well…somebody (Alright, Lauryn Hill). I even linked to her singing for Seventeen magazine .

The problem for me however…I”m just underwhelmed. I’m not that impressed. She sounds like a little of everyone and while I don’t doubt her singing ability…I’m just not feeling it. As I write this, I’m listening to her single, “The Pressure,” and once again I’m completely underwhelmed.

Granted, I like this single better than “Need You Bad,” but it still sounds like just another R&B chick. Nothing new. Nothing fresh. While I wish Ms. Sullivan much success, I hope she’s able to find her own voice and is able to bring something new to a stagnant R&B field.
