Spice Girls Has One of the Highest Grossing Tours of 2008
Apparently pop isn’t dead after all. The Spice Girls raked in the dollars this year with their reunion tour. I guess all the working out and losing weight and practice, practice, practice paid off quite handsomely for the “Girls.” From the Los Angeles Times:
No one stays broken up in pop music these days. The Police? The Eagles? The Jesus Lizard? Indie or mainstream, few can resist the opportunity to get the band back together. So it wasn’t a surprise that the Spice Girls staged a reunion tour. But it was, perhaps, unexpected that so many people simply needed to see it, as the Spice Girls scored one of the 10 highest-grossing tours of the year, raking in about $70 million, according to Billboard stats.
Damn. That’s still hard for me to fathom. I knew they were popular back in the nineties, but $70 million dollars worth of popular? Really? I mean let’s be real, these ladies aren’t exactly spring chickens anymore. But, hey I’m not hatin’. I like to see women out of their tweens and twenties make it big in the music world. Pop culture these days screams you have to be just out of puberty or barely in your twenties to be successful, so it’s nice to see the mature crowd leaves these pop tarts in the dust.
